Where we are now

Currently we are living in Birmingham, Alabama. We work for a mission Agency called Make Way Partners who works to combat Human Trafficking, modern day slavery. Kevin and I work in a 400 child orphanage in Sudan, Africa. We will be splitting our time between living in Alabama and in Sudan. Kevin is currently there now managing the construction of our boys dormitory. We completed our girls dormitory in 2007. I will be joining him soon!

How we got engaged

We went for a hike to a place called Dragon's Tooth. Then, we went to see some friends out in the country for about an hour. We came back to our respective homes and got cleaned up to go to what I thought was just going to be a nice dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Chateau Morissitte, because he was leaving for Sudan soon. He picked me up at my place with roses. We had 9:00 p.m. reservations so we left several hours early to catch the sunset on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We went to a special overlook we had been to before. There were many people around so after the sunset Kevin waited a little while for people to leave and got on one knee and popped the question. I was shocked! Then, we left for our reservations. The waiter gave us a chocolate indulgence dessert that they give on special occasions. That was very special!.

How We Met

We met the first time in 2001 at Virginia Tech when we briefly worked near each other. We saw each other once. 5 years later in July of 2005, he visited my church for the first time. I introduced myself to welcome "the new visitor". We looked for each other for several weeks. About three weeks later we had a luncheon after church. He waited to get behind me in line so he could see where I was going to sit. I sat down and saw a seat open next to me, I motioned for him to come over. (We were both hoping to sit next to each other!) We had lunch together and found out we had many things in common. He asked me if I wanted to go hiking sometime. We went the next weekend. It pored down rain. But, we laughed and talked and had the most fun! This is where we realized we had met 5 years before. He knew I was "special" when I still had a smile on my face after being wet and cold. We went Swing dancing that week and the next day we were officially dating.
